First off, Can you be on Nutrisystem and not talk to a consultant weekly? Many thanks for any answer or 2. My 2nd question... I'm starting the third week of the program. Stick with at least 95% of the meal planner. Food is good, portions are OK (haven't felt hungry), so what's the problem? I have an urge to go back to real food. Something I can sink my teeth into.

Any one have this yearning? and what do you do about it, other than bite the bullet and forge ahead?..

If "real" food is what got you fat, do you really want to go back and do it again..

Actually read through and do the Mindset Makeover and go back and read the Daily Dose as those help you realize why you have those urges and what to do about them, how to handle them and what triggers them..

Good luck, if you are full and losing weight, well then I guess that portion of the program is working...

You need to forge ahead for a few months..

The road back to where you were is easy to head back onto and so easy to follow. Give yourself time to build new habits before you start to mess with the program..

I'm a perfect example...three months of great results and a loss of about 60 pounds. Then, slowly creeping back and away from the program..

I've not done horrible damage..I'm still 65 pounds down since August. But, if I'd have followed the program better I suspect I'd be 80 or 90 pounds down..

I've been using the Go Wear Fit for a week and I can start to see exactly the spots I'm messing up. (Weekends for example where I have been less strict have been killing my momentum for the week.) My new box arrived yesterday, and I have have better sense of calorie burn and deficit from the Go Wear I have on. I'm hoping that tandem will get me back onto some losses instead of just maintaining the 60+ loss (I've been as high as 70 and sadly gave a little of it back by eating crap)...

Continue to forge ahead..

You are still looking at food as a source of enjoyment, entertainment, and comfort. That's the mindset that put me over 350 pounds. I use to hate vegetables, didn't care for salads, and would rarely eat fruit. Now they are what I crave when I want something to eat. It took my body several months to realize it felt better when I ate better. Once I enjoyed feeling better, I enjoyed eating healthier (which is something I never thought possible for someone like me).

Eat healthy foods, eat to nourish your body not to entertain or comfort..

You'll feel better, look better, and live a longer more fulfilling life..

The first 4-6 weeks were tough on me. I didn't think I could do it for long, but I stuck it out. After 3 or 4 months went by, I realized I wasn't on a diet anymore. I had actually changed the way I look at food and what I eat. Nutrisystem makes it easy for me to make the right choices. I have a goal weight but not a finish line.

This is me now..

I'm completely born again when it comes to my food choices. I've been doing this for 50 weeks. I lost 132 pounds on Nutrisystem (so far), 5 inches off my neck, 14 inches off my waist, and I feel 10-15 years younger. Every health problem I had or was flirting with is gone. I'm sure the pizza places and the value menu at my local fast food place miss me, but I don't miss them..

It's easy to quit or cheat. It's rewarding to stick it out and feel the real results grab hold of you in a few months..

Do you want a moment of pleasure in what you call "real" food? Or do you want to feel better and be healthier for a lifetime? Choose wisely...

What some of you fail to realize is that you CAN eat off program and not "cheat" You just need to look at the nutritional content and make sound choices when you don't have you Nutrisystem entree and salad and veggies and protein and carbs and....

The Nutrisystem counselors will be more than happy to give you examples of what you can have (like the turkey sandwich mentioned above - that came STRAIGHT from a Nutrisystem counselor one day when I forgot my lunch entree, likewise when I asked about the buffalo burger)..

I don't miss "real food".

That is the stuff that made me "Real Fat".

I don't look at this as something that I can cheat on. Nutrisystem (for me) is a new lifestyle and way of looking at food. Being accountable, in control, and proportionate eating are all new points of view for me. If this is some temporary "fix" to lose weight you're wasting your money..

Buying this food and eating Nutrisystem meals is "Basic Training" for the rest of your eating life..

Just my two cents..

Jonah_Hex made great points....

I think you need to ask yourself why you think Nutrisystem is not "Real Food"?.

You need to be committed to eating differently for the rest of your life..

I think that everyone that has been successful here will attest that we are not the lucky ones that can eat anything we want and never worry about losing weight. All of us have a fat person trying to get out..

The only way to defeat that is to give your body the right type of food and quantity of food. This isn't an option..

If you don't make that commitment, you might as well stop buying Nutrisystem food and resign yourself to be overweight. That is what it takes to be successful..

On the positive note...Once you do it for 3 months, I think you will find you prefer eating correctly..

I can't believe the difference this has made in my life and how simple it really has been..

Be 100% Nutrisystem for three months...You won't regret it!.

I agree! You've got to commit to at least 3 months on the program. After you lose a ton a weight, you'll be more cautious about straying. You'll learn what food is poison and what foods are good substitutions..

If you stray before you have any kind of success, you'll be right back at your starting point and that can be frustrating..

July 4th is 3 months away. Plan now to look good in the neighborhood!.

Youll eat up the compliments...

Three weeks is a little early to cheat. You need to have the "click" in your brain that makes you understand how your body works and make sure your stomach has shrunk sufficiently. Once you get towards your goal, you will learn that you can have one bite of something just for the taste and *stop*. The flavor of one mouthful of something is exactly the same as the taste of a pound of it. Plus, after a long period on NS, you'll eat one potato chip and be shocked at how greasy your mouth feels. Yes, you can eat just one, but not right now when you're still vulnerable...

Okay folks, this is my second week, I've already cheated a little bit three times. Once I ate roast beef for dinner instead of my Nutrisystem meal, and once I ate BBQ pork for dinner, and yesterday I ate an oreo flurry from a cheap well known restaurant. So, is this normal? I don't want to go back to where I started from, but I do occasionally get a craving for what I used to eat. Where I live there are several restaurants per capita in western KY and I just moved here almost 2 years ago. Anyways, since moving here, I felt like a kid in a candy store because there is so much food to choose from. I never ate out that much until I moved here. I also have a family of five, and I am trying to cook for them (and my husband cooks mostly too) but it is hard to see and smell the food cooking and knowing that I have to eat something different makes it really hard...what do I do?..

I want to lose this weight...I want to be healthier because my disabled children need me...I have two disabled children who may not be able to ever survive on their own...and no one to do it for me. I got myself this way, I am not blaming others. I need support and motivation. I can not get that from many people here because I don't know that many people. I also joined YMCA to work out, but I failed to go because it is so crowded, so I have been wasting my money by not going there, but I still pay for it because I set out to do it, but gave up. I guess I am shy and don't like others staring at my big fat body while I work out...i know it's a good organization, but I think I need to save my dollars and buy my own equipment and put it upstairs for my very own workout gym. Should I go to a place for support or what?..

Gaffer, the hardest times in Nutrisystem are the threes (3rd day, week, month). I agree with the statement that you can eat "off plan" and still stay on the Nutrisystem path. A limited portion of lean meat, two veggies and salad with LF dressing make a good dinner that is OK within the spirit of NS. However if this becomes a weekly habit, you are only delaying the progress (because you will get more sodium off plan than on plan) and that in itself may frustrate you and cause you to give up or give in. So my advice is to tough it out. String 30 days of 100% in a row together, and then have 1 meal "Off Plan" but in line with the spirit of NS....Then get right back and do another 30.

Best of luck to you brother...

Thanks for all the support. I found part of the solution for "real" food by substituting Nutrisystem equivalents that I cook. Same calories, same fat, same every thing, except that I cook it. Helps me enjoy Nutrisystem more. Breakthrough in mindset..

I know it's difficult, but you want to avoid "cheating" until you've learned more about Nutrisystem and can do it intelligently. Roast Beef would not necessarily be a bad dinner, but you need to know how much and what to put with it to approximate a packaged entree. You can replicate BBQ with the grilled chicken breast shredded and mix in a little bbq sauce or wing sauce. The flurry - that's just something you've got to avoid. Here are the nutrition facts:.

So you got some protein and calcium, but at the cost of way too much fat and sugar/carb. Take a look for some Edys frozen juice bars which are 35 calories and a much less costly "splurge". I also have some North Star sugar free fudgesicles which are 45. They don't fit onto the plan anywhere, but can possibly help you resist the McFlurry.

Good luck!..

That's great advice, Jayzen. I've been on the program for exactly two months, but I'm already aware of that "click". The few times I've strayed from the program, I haven't splurged at all; for example, when I had to eat breakfast at a diner one morning, I simply ate a 1 whole egg + 2 egg white veggie omelet (about 140 calories), with a slice of dry wheat toast (90 calories) and drank black coffee and water..

Another time I was out of town unexpectedly and starving (I didn't plan to be away from home so long), so I broke down and had a SINGLE slice of cheese pizza with water (wasn't able to get to a restaurant or deli for a salad)..

But the restraint factor is already firmly in place. And the smell of greasy fried foods actually makes me a little nauseous now. I look at a donut and instead of going "yum!", I'm thinking "yecch!" now. So I completely understand what you're saying..

At this point, the hardest part of staying on the program isn't being hungry or having an urge to splurge; it's more of simply the (minor) inconvenience of having to plan each meal so carefully and passing up on eating dinner out for now. But I'm sure eventually I'll be able to go to restaurants like I used to, but only order healthy choices...
