Got a quick question: Did I cheat on my Medifast Diet? Hoping for any response. Another question... I'm just about to finish up my 3rd week on Medifast and so far I've been weighing every 2-3 days with one official weigh in a week. Now that I'm at a point where my weightloss is going to start to slow down a bit I'm trying to decide if I should weigh daily or strongly stick to the once a week thing.. |

I would like to know the answer too. Anyone here know what is the right answer. I'll do some Googling and get back to you if I bump into an anything. You should email the people at Medifast as they probably could assist you..

I weigh daily...I can't help it...I'm obsessed with wanting daily updates. Yes, it's very discouraging to see a slight gain that will go away the next day or a huge loss followed by days of nothing but I do it anyway. Bad way to go but I can't be a hypocrit and say not to when I do..

Don't daily weigh if you can prevent it!.
Particularly if you find that it affects your day if you go up or down a little. There WILL be days when you see the scale go up, likely due to stuff like sodium, water weight, TOM, etc. It's normal! One day I went up 4 pounds, even though I am on plan, but sodium AND TOM kicked me in the bum.. But it's not about the day to day slight changes in the scale. It's about the overall progress, and I lose some every week... |

Hi Liddell-.
I am in the same boat as you. I can't seem to stay off the scale. And... being a geek, my scale is wifi enabled so it's also a fun gadget for me.. I am going to try and stay off the scale until Friday this week! Shall we do it together?. -Andrea.. |

I've surprised myself by weighing about every three days. That's often enough for me!! But so far I've had happy results...

I rarely weigh anymore - the only reason I am even doing it weekly these days is because I am in a challenge so I record my number. Mostly I go by how I feel, how my clothes fit, and what my body fat percentage is - these are the important measurements for me. In the last 3 weeks I have gone up 3.5 pounds according to the scale, but am now down 3" in body size. The scale cannot show me the 3" lost though, only the number up. It also doesn't measure my joy at feeling strong and capable..
While weighing can be a useful tool, take that number with a block of salt. Weigh to get a baseline, then let it go. And never forget that it takes 3500 calories above your resting metabolic rate to gain a pound of fat. Even if the scale goes up, look at the number logically - if you haven't eaten 3500 calories above your resting metabolic weight for each pound up, you KNOW it is not fat.. Use the scale as a tool, but never forget you are more than a number on a machine and your worth, you value as a person, is not determined by that number... |

Andrea: What kind of scale do you have? Sounds like a fun toy! I'm happy with my current scale for now, but I think that once I do get to a point of plateau and once I start working out I'll want a scale that gives me more of an idea of water, muscle, and fat composistion. Even if it's not super accurate, I think there will be a turning point for me. like with Hinata, where my overall weight will mean less, and body make up and measurements will be far more important..
Thanks for the input everyone... |

I have to jump in here.
To weigh or not to weigh is different for everybody. For me, it helps keep me accountable. If I cheat, I see the results immediately. I find myself talking me out cheating because I want to see a drop on the scale the next day. I also know that the scale flucuates from day to day. And because I know my rhythym I am not shocked by a slight gain right before TOM or if I had something salty for dinner the night before. ) Just realize that the scale flucuates and take it all with grain of salt(but not too much cuz that will make the scale go up. ). Good luck in whatever you do. You will find what's right for you. Bottom line is it's not the weighing that determines your loss. It's what you put in your mouth that determines it. So stick to the plan and you will lose weight no matter how many times a week you weigh.. |
