Quick question: High fiber Nutrisystem diet for person with no teeth? Thanks for any answer. Another question on my mind: What's the scoop on Nutrisystem and Exercise - can you exercise too much? Do you need to augment calories/food if you do exercise. So far I'm racking about 1200-1300 calories a day but burning 450-500 in a daily morning workout.. |

Good question... I dunno what is the answer to that question. I'll do some poking around and get back to you if I got an anything. You should email the people at Nutrisystem as they probably can answer it..

On the men's program you should be averaging 1500 calories a day, so you seem to be a little on the low side. I'd say add another carb (or fruit) and protein to help recover from the exercise...

You can exercise too much. The Nutrisystem program (1300 - 1500) cals is designed for approx. 3 twenty to thirty minute workouts a week. If you do much more than that I've read on this board that you should increase the number of calories taken in...

I would have to agree....
You should be between 1500 - and 1700 calories with limited exercise.. You should check your logging to ensure you are recording everything. It is almost as bad to eat too little then to eat too much, since your body will start hording calories and your weight loss will stop.. I would call Nutrisystem and discuss what you should add when you exercise.. I also would be careful about trusting the "calories burned". Many of the machines that provide that information aren't that accurate.. Clark.. |

I don't exercise at all and take in 1500 calories. I don't know how you are doing it..
I would think that you are hurting yourself and really need about 1800+ calories right now.. Also, why are you working out everyday? I only ask because it seems a little extreme.. Good luck!.. |

I do workout almost everyday of the week. I am not lifting any weights right now but I am walking on a treadmill for about 40 minutes on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. It is a good enough workout where I am burning roughly 300 calories a workout..
The other days of the week, I do yoga. That is right, a 260 pound guy doing yoga. Not a pretty picture, but hey, it is doing the trick. Once I lose about another 30 pounds, I am going to start adding lifting into my routine, but will make sure I increase my calories... |

I'll be so glad when my shoulder heals enough that I can go back to doing yoga. I really miss it and my core strength is going to hell!..

I'm doing a fairly rigorous exercise program 4 or more days a week that includes strength training (I've got a LONG way to go to return to my physique of 30 years ago - but that's my goal!). I found out something strange along the way. I actually stalled the weight loss by doing this. Fixed it by adding a protein drink after every workout. This is in addition to staying on-program. My favorite is Muscle Milk with 31 g protein and 330 cal.
They both work. As soon as I did that, the pounds started falling off.. Of course, as my ticker shows, I torpedoed myself last week with a few "deviations", but I'm starting to get the rythm of my body and what works for me. Try stuff and find out what works for you. We're all different.. Gordon.. |

I haven't worked out at all in my almost 4 weeks. I'm around 1400 calories/day.
Down 13 pounds in the first 3 weeks... |
|
I've started exercising six or seven days a week, but mostly on my recumbent exercise bike. I find it easy to get the heart rate up for a good 30 minutes without jarring the hell out of my rapidly aging body. I'm loving the bike! It's nice to get exercise without shin splints, sore muscles, or achy joints...

So exercise can slow weight loss on NS? Lots of different reports here, but personally I like getting in shape - even if weight loss slows..
Thoughts?. Paparazzi.. |

I personally feel it's an awesome combination. Shedding pounds while building muscle that is slowly unveiling itself as the blubber covering dissipates. How cool is that! You will have to add calories and protein to support this approach, though. Everyone is different in how you tolerate it. Speak to a counselor, or simply try things and see how it works for you. I'm a real DIY'er and enjoy using my body as an experiment and learning all I can from others here.
While pushing it pretty hard at the gym as long as I add a 330 cal Muscle Milk after every workout. YMMV. Results not typical. Etc, etc.. Gordon.. |

If you belong to a gym, talk to the personal trainer. I sat down and had a whole session with mine before even working out. Explained how you need correct diet, Cardio and Weight or resistance training and the importance of all three. I know I did not get overweight because of muscle build up or exercise...

I was reading a book about dealing with problem dogs (I tak care of my uncle's fear-aggressive Jack Russell who's very used to having his way) and found out, bam, the dogs need at the very minimum an hour's worth of exercise a day, and an hour and a half is more like it. I'd been walking them around the block in maybe 15-20 minutes!.
So now I get them out there. I go for 45-60 minutes in the morning, and then 20-30 minutes at night when I get back from work. I just started doing that in the past couple of weeks (although I've slacked now and then), and I can tell the difference. It's a nice, brisk pace where we keep moving. I can tell a difference in them and in me. After a couple of days of just walking that much a day, the weight loss is very satisfying. Eating less, drinking more water, and moving around that's all there is to it.. ETA: Oh, and I called about adding in more calories. The counselor said if I felt hungry to add in a protein/fruit serving. But only if I really felt hungry. I'll see if the weight loss stalls, but the extra exercise only seems to have lit the fuse for me... |

Cool exercise & gratz - thank you for sharing! I'm hungry right after workouts but my Nutrisystem food and Suppliments (Fruit/Low GI Carb, etc.) plus a ton of water keeps me from feeling hungry...
