Quick question: How much weight will I lose the first week of the Medifast Diet? Thanks in advance for any answer. Another question on my mind: Other topics will be discussed that may not be appropriate for the easily offended.. |
I would like to know the answer too. Anyone here know what is the answer to your question. I'll do some poking around and get back to you if I bump into an good answer. You should email the people at Medifast as they probably can help you..

Good morning... The coffee is great and well needed... I am driving so to school then getting on the elliptical and then off to work.....
Hope everyone has an awesome day!!!. Cindy.. |
Good morning, Tough Lovelies! Thanks for the Sumatra, Bard! Love that stuff! This morning my husband said, "I hope the coffee's not too strong." No such thing..
I'm going to get my nails done after work today. I don't wear them long, but I do use them as tools! I was going to give my nails a little breather for a couple of weeks, but I can't even change my daughter's earrings without them! So I have them done short with no color and just UV gel on them, which is very strong. They look very natural and nice and shiny when I have them done. And tomorrow I can swap Emma's earrings! LOL!. We are finally seeing a warm up in the forecast, but it's too early to get my hopes up yet. I'm still waking up to 30 degrees!. Good morning, Cindy! And anyone else who has snuck in while I was typing!.. |
Morning all! Audit done and passed. Yippee! Now to catch up on two days of my working life that got taken away from me..
Thanks for the coffee, fuzzy!.. |
Good morning Barb, Cindy, Penny, MT. I'm a bit groggy so that's all I've got...
MMMMM. Thanks for the Sumatra Java this moring Barb!.
Good Morning all my Lovelies!. Barb, Cindy, Penny and MT... I feel like the teacher on Romper Room (Miss Sally?) looking into ,my Magic Mirror...LOL And of course any Lovelies who show up during my long winded typing.. Penny, thats funny about your manicure...funny I say, because I am the same way, with one difference...I'm a pedicure gal. Year round (less often in the winter moths but love it and hate to miss it... |
Morning Barb, Cindy, Penny, Mt and Zoe! and Keri we were typing at the same time.
More house crud to do today. It's back to our normal spring weather today. I leave in just a few days so I've got to get moving here. Tonight is Middle School Book Club, we enjoy that a lot.. Have a great one everybody!.. |
Quick fly-by to say hello. Skimmed yesterday's thread and got the gist of Tuesday's thread. I don't even have time to keep up with happenings in here, much less to go out & about & read & post, so I'm safe by default. Ahhh, when life was simpler, slower...The next 25 days are going to be the slowest of the year. That's where my countdown ticker is. But, then again, it will be the fastest because there's so much yet to do, both at home, besides trip prep, and especially at werk.
So off I go.. Have a FABULOUS Thursday, kids.. |
Morning Anna, Zoe and YiaYia! HAppy Thursday to you! Hey...where's that morning glory "Morning girl" Melissa? LOL Seems like Zoe and I (self admitted non morning types) are already here! Hmmmm...
So I mentioned that I was donating some earrings to the Phoenix Relay for Life. A friend of mine is on the board and their gala is coming up. She asked if I'd be interested in donating something since they're expecting from 5000 to 8000 people to come through the doors! Here are the earrings I did for that:.
And, for the silly Tough Lovelies' giggly pleasure:. And last but not least, you know who you are:.. |
Penny! Gorgeous earrings...BUT....
If you made those other items into pins...you would have another customer on Etsy! LOL Love it! I'm not a huge jewelery person. My wedding/engagement rings, and sometimes earrings... But Sistah... I can get behind those pins! LOLI could be like Hester Prinn... Wear my Silver Word instead of my Scarlett Letter... I am a LOSER! You should write 100% Loser..... |
Morning Tough Lovers!.
I'm down only .8 for the week, but given that I had to weigh in on Saturday last week after traveling and posted a whopping 5.3, I'll certainly take the .8 over 4 days without whining. That still keeps me at an average of over 4 lbs per week. One thing I realized, though, is that I love to have cheese as part of my lean when I'm home, but didn't have cheese at all when I was out of town. Hmmm might be a lesson for me.. Anna - you look ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! I just saw your pics this morning. Girl, you're small enough now that every five or ten pounds you lose are going to make a huge difference in appearance. I'm SO incredibly proud of you. And you broke into the 170's WAAAAA HOOOOOOOOOO!!. No more chopped tofu this morning. Big meeting today. HUGGLES!!.. |
TKD.
From your lips to God's ears. My mom actually said she thought the last 5-10lbs was really noticeable. Thank you so much.. |
Mmm... Sumatra. Yum! Thanks for the coffee, fuzzy!.
Zoe & Keri- I'm here! I was with Melissa as the perky am person. I'm in CA, so I get a little bit of a pass for not being in the first 10 posts. It's still only 5:30am here.. Fuzzy & Cindy- awesome job getting the exercise in early.. Anna- Hope you have fun at MS Book Club tonight. Sounds right up my alley.. TKD- Awesome job! 4lbs a week??? Wow, I'm jealous!. I took yesterday off from work as a mental health day. I sooo needed it. My class is challenging at best. My class has more students with behavior issues or spec ed needs that all the other 3rd grade classes put together.. It was such a nice day. I slept til 7, took DD to school, worked in my garden, DH and I went to the movies and saw Limitless (if only I thought that clearly and was so focused!), walked around together, picked up DD from school, and then spent the afternoon & evening together playing at the park and taking DD to her activities. I feel much better. Plus I only have 5.5 days until spring break. woohoo!. Hello to those of you who I missed! Have a great day!. Deidra.. |
Good morning and who drank the last of the coffee without filling the pot again?.
Off to sit on babies again.. Hope it is a great day for all... |
Gmorning TLies.
Thanks for the Sumatra blend. Barb. I refilled the pot and we're good for another ten posts or so.. Penny. - Love the necklaces. You must have a lot of patience. I would never be able to do that detailed of work. Tell me about the UV gel on your nails. Is that the gel (or shelac) stuff? I've wanted to try it.. Diedre. - I'm a perky morning person too. But, like you, I'm CA, so it's 6:00 here... that's pretty good. Melissa will be here soon, I'm sure.. Good morning. Anna, Zoe, Keri, Jan. , who else did I miss? I always end up missing someone and having to come back and add them. Waves to all! I need more coffee.. Off to get ready for Thursday. Wahoo!!!! Have a great one everyone... |
Good Morning Lovelies!.
Not a lot of time to chat...just catching up on yesterday and today's thread. I LOVE the "loser" and "geek" necklace. Penny. ...I would sport both of those!. I had to work late yesterday so I didn't make it to yoga...I was very disappointed. I'm off Monday so I'm going to try to attend a morning class called "Yin" that mainly focuses on stretching, breathing and meditation...which is exactly what I'm looking for at this point!. Has any of you ever tried Zumba? Did you like it? I danced for 15 years and I'd love to get back into some kind of exercise based on dancing.. Alright...I have to jet for now...I'll check back in later!.. |
Good Morning Tough Lovelies!!!.
Thanks for the coffee,. Barb. !. Penny. - Ahh nails, you read my mind. I was thinking of getting mine done this weekend. Hmm, maybe I will! And I love the earrings you're donating for the charity - that's so nice of you!. Debra. - LOVE ZUMBA! So much fun and it's exercise, what's not to love?!. Big hello to. Fuzzy. ,. Cindy. ,. MT. ,. Anonygirl. ,. Kerri. ,. Anna. ,. Jan. ,. Tkd. ,. Deidra. ,. Talien. ,. Cheri. And. Mia. ... and anyone else I may have missed! You ladies are busy already. As for me, I'm now down from my CS high... *sigh*. I had an unexpected NSV that made me smile yesterday. I also am part of a skiing website community and I had posted a question about new skis and gave my stats... height/weight/etc. Well this guy PM'd me and said for a "lightweight such as myself yada yada"... Re-read. Wait, did a COMPLETE STRANGER call me... yes. ME. ... a. Lightweight. ?! Can that be right?! I'm certainly not a lightweight in my eyes LOL. Little does this random stranger know that he made my day, heck even week, so much brighter and happier with that little word.. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!. Cheers,. Lisa.. |
I totally want the "Geek" necklace!.
Debra. , I have never done Zumba, but everyone I know who does it, loves it!. Good morning,. Everyone. !. I am going through some stuff and feel excessively tired all of the time from various stressors and have started to have inappropriate sludge thoughts. All I can say is that I promise to come here before eating anything off plan. My usual method is "It's easier to ask forgiveness than permission." Nope, not anymore. I'll come here because I know you all will not give me permission!.. |
Good morning yawwwnnn (reaching for the coffee). Thanks for the coffee..
My you goils are quick with the postings and wake-up rally.. I can't stay but, wanted to make a post so I could follow along throughout the day.. Dutch chocolate shake down, 16 oz of water already down...now the coffee. Have a wonderful OP day!.. |
Sherry.
, I love your tagline - "Don't feed your emotions." I needed to see that today!.. |
Did someone mention Zumba? <perk> hehe Yep. I'm not a dancer (actually terribly uncoordinated after a high school injury) but I love it, as long as it's in the privacy of my own living room..
It can be pretty intense for 5&1 though, so keep that in mind.. Morning. I am very slow getting the brain to function this morning, so forgive me. I used to be able to just jump right in and do shout outs. Must be old age or sumpin.. Penny - Love those necklaces!! What t riot! I really like the earrings for Relay. You did good hon. And with that, I will give you our ever shrinking numbers...157/08/50... I really need to win the lottery SOON!!. Anna - Where are you going? I'm sure you told us, but I can't for the life of me remember.. Talien - Your post cracked me up and made me think of a long gone Roguie that ran her own day care. That "sitting on kids" reminds me of something she would have said. hehe.. OK. That's as far as my stretched brain can go. That and I have a PA hounding me for invoices. <sigh> Guess I'd better get to work.. No chopped tofu, ever!.. |
Keri, Ill bet I could think of a way to make those into pins considering all the shawl pin/stick pin ideas I have floating around my brain now! I thought about one that says 100% - but some characters are more difficult. Thought about Tough Lovely, too, but I need to get better at my T. This was my first attempt at words, aside from a super-easy E I made for Emma..
Tracey, I love cheese, too, but havent used it much on 5+1. I like volume. I suppose I could do cottage cheese, though. Your rate of loss is astounding!. Anna, I second what Tracey said. Youre becoming a little bitty thing!. Deidra, your day off sounded great. I need to do that soon with my hubby. His coworker (just the two of them in the shop working on concrete mixers) is in Italy last week and this week and Marc has had to work alone all this time. Im sure he likes the break the other guy is a very negative, chronic complainer but he could use a mental health day, too, Im sure. I didnt know you taught third grade. I think a third grade teacher is one of the most important teachers a child has in school. My hat is off to you, Missy!. Talien is sitting on babies! You mustve been watching that momma eagle too much!. Cheri, my patience is helped by doing that kind of work, actually. I can just lose myself in it. The UV gel is a clear gel coating they put over my nails, whether theres polish or not, and then I put them under a UV light for a couple of minutes. It makes the polish last much longer if I have it, and it's very strong. They have to use the Dremel tool to remove it when I go in for a fill. Strong stuff! But I use my nails as tools for everything, so it's kinda necessary!. Debra, talk to De about Zumba! She is our resident Zumba expert! It looks like loads of fun!. Good morning, Mia! OMG! I have to come see you to get those boxes! I started feeling better and forgot all about it! Is tomorrow good?. Morning, Lisa! I heard CS on a Post cereal commercial this morning and dropped everything to watch. I never paid much attention to him when he shows up of Biggest Loser, but for some reason hes floating my boat now.. Ha ha, Carolyn! Ive gotten several PMs about the Geek necklace! I saw one online yesterday that said NERD and I though GEEK would be easier to do! I think Id better make a few of these and get them on Etsy! Be strong, girl. Were all here for you.. Good morning, Sherry! Nice to see you this morning!. Morning, De! I gotta post this soon because my words are becoming obsolete! I am LOVING the numbers!!! 157 is my lucky number, too! Has been for years! It even took me 157 days to get to goal in 2009! Wow doesnt seem long in retrospect!.. |
Fast fly-by this morning, I'm so sorry!!!!! No chopped tofu - love to all! HI KERI!!!!!!!.
Work is super crazy AND I'm getting my review today, so lots of crazy going on here.. Be back later!!!!. Melissa.. |
De.
I'm heading to San Diego for a week to see my dh and help him find a rental house. I just went through all the ones I liked and removed several for having crappy elementary schools. The boys, my Mom and I move out late June/early July.. Penny. Thank you at 179 lbs I do not yet feel itty bitty. Morning Sherry, Carolyn , Melissa and all the others I missed !.. |
I have done Zumba for a few years. I love it! It's the best workout and the hour goes by so fast. My socks are soaked within 20 mins. It's a lot of fun and usually a great group of ladies. If you like to dance, also look for a DPX class.
D. Ance. P. Arty e. X. Treme. Zumba is more latin-based. DPX is more hip-hop based.. I'm not a happy camper when my schedule causes me to miss my Zumba or DPX... |
Good morning Lovelies..
Barb. Thanks for the Sumatra. My favorite.. Penny. , I am going to try a gel shellac on my nails this week. I wonder if it's the same thing. Sounds like it. I think they soak it off though, but I'll see. I guess it's supposed to be super hard and shiny, but they take it off and start fresh instead of fill. I usually just get a manicure with no special stuff and just natural shiny polish. I do have to say, my nails are SO strong since MF. Anyone else notice that?. Sherry. , early bird. That's all I have to say.. Another busy day at work. I'm NEVER letting anyone go on vacation again. I'm so used to my freedom and really goes against my grain to have to be in the office. UGH!!.. |
Good Morning Tough Lovelies!.
Tofu may flitter in and out of my brain.. Penny: saw the response to Shawl Pins last night. Yesterday I receive tow beautiful shawls in the mail with sturdy shawl pins. They reminded me of the kilt pins we used to wear in HS.. So, my shawl status put me in the old ladies who don't understand the internet category, which is primarily true.. I love your pins. I love your necklace that makes a tinkling noise when you walk and move.. The earrings for the charity event: gorgeous. Like Keri, I don't wear jewelry, even wedding rings now, neither does DH, we say we're having an affair. So pins, but not necessarily shawl pins are of interest to me.. How about barrettes? Seems to me even the written works GEEK, NERD, etc, even ETC might also be interesting with a few beads or jangly bits. Go Artist, Go!. So, this shawl-wearing Granny, who wishes to cuddle up with her DGD1, isn't too insulted by having my shawl status so rudely marginalized. If I were the only fat person here, and I were being marginalized for being fat, you'd all know exactly how I felt last night. YUCK!. I am an aspiring Mother Goose who plans to snuggle DGD1 on my lap while we read her favorite books. So, re-frame shawl wearing, please. Maybe I'll get the Mother Goose hat too. I really like striped tights,.. Coffee is great. Thank you Barb and Cheri. I poured mine in my Hot coca and only added 4 cups of H20 to dilute the sugary taste.. Welcome, Ducati!. Hi, Keri!. Congratulations, Anna. You are going to be a California Beach Babe for sure!. Enjoy every minute of your day, TLers!. Beth.. |
Thanks ladies! I'm glad Zumba is fun...but sad it's a little hardcore for the 5 & 1. I'm not very interested in doing the 4 & 2 at any point during my weight loss journey this time..
De. - I looked on the website...one of them is a "20 minute workout to amp you up!". Do you think that since it's only 20 minutes...that it would be OK to do that workout on the 5 & 1? As the Zumba expert, I trust your judgement!. Ok, I have absolutely no motivation to work today. I did talk my boss into letting me leave at 2 tomorrow...and I'm off Monday...so I get a loooong weekend this weekend. Woohoo!. Penny. - Do you have a website where you sell your jewelry? I'd love to see what all you have!. I'll check back in later TL's!.. |
Yep, it should be fine. I do the DVD's, but they are still the easier ones, but still leave me huffing and puffing. I do the express and the abs sessions, both are 20 min. I was doing the sculpt when I was in maintenance, but that is a longer session and it was definitely too much as far as calorie deficit. Of course, I wasn't taking in much more calories and carbs in maintenance that I do in 5&1, so that was part of the problem..
Anna - Thanks. I thought that might be it, but just wasn't sure. Enjoy!.. |
I made it into the office. Now the fun begins..
I am now sporting a beautiful green macaroni necklace. Given to me by my little cutie pie. He then told me I was the prettiest girl in the world. Yes, I will wear the necklace all day. Now, that's a good way to start the day.. |
Hi everybody!.
Thought I'd have a chance to sit at the computer yesterday, but no...and today looks "iffy" as well.. Work on the basement is progressing.. Still 100% on plan and loving the losing!. <hugs> to all!.. |
What a cute gift Cheri! And what a good mom to not remove it as soon as the little one is out of sight! hehe. I still have a couple of necklaces like that that my evil son (ES) gave me when he was still cute and loveable...
Evil son??.
I love the macaroni necklace. I love almost everything created by chidlren... |
I have a lovely Macaroni Christmas ornament that my DD made when she was 4 or 5. My tree sports it every year..
I get a kick out of how now at 25, she is mortified every year over it. Good times... |
I have ornaments that my oldest son (who is now 23) made when he was 3 and 4. They still go on the tree every year. This year he had a great time showing them off to his girlfriend. I love all that stuff. I am a softy as far as my kids go...
Hey, everyone. I'm really terrible at chopped tofu, and today is an especially bad day for that because I have a French test at 1 (about an hour) and I never spend enough time studying for this class's exam... so... I'm doing that, sort of..
Also, someone mentioned that coffee doesn't have any calories, but actually, when I log it (which I do, every day) one cup has about 4.5 calories. It's not much, but if you have like 5 cups a day, that does actually add up... |
Claire.
, I had no idea coffee had calories. I guess I never thought about it, but truly, only water has zero, zero, zero. I only have 1 cup a day, but you are right..it could add up. Gonna google... |
Okay, I went to nutritiondata.self..my fav nutrition fact site. it does say that brewed coffee has 2 calories per 8 oz. How interesting...
Beth, thanks for the great ideas! But I, too, fall into the shawl-wearing category! Im just not into pinning them I may have to think about that for next winter! Yes, the pins are similar to kilt pins very heavy. Hmmmm barrettes Ive done a few for my little one, but they didnt come out the greatest. I will have to brainstorm this one..
Debra, why, yes! Yes, I do! Theres a link to my Etsy site in my signature. My inventory is still at around 35-40 pieces. I need to get some more new stuff listed soon! So check back often!. Cheri, the story about the macaroni necklace? That is the sweetest thing Ive heard all day! I have a dried dandelion here at my desk that my little one gave me at her old school from about 3 years ago. Its in the hand of a little ceramic frog where I know it's safe. I love that Emma has the creativity gene, too. Shes constantly making me things. Unfortunately, theyre usually made of paper and hard to keep. She really wants to do beadwork with me, so Ive gotta get her going on that... |
I was surprised to see how much potassium coffee has. Since I'm almost always on the low end potassium-wise, it's bottoms up with my coffee cup a couple of times a day!..
Good morning all - only 5 pages?! you guys are SLACKING. the other california girls are making me look bad - it's 9:00 and i've only been up an hour....
Someone tell me to STOP daily weighing - it's bumming me out this week. it's just sitting there... I may need a verbal pick me up on saturday just warning you all in advance.. Today work is dead slow so i'm kind of taking the day off - already got the dog all tired, need to go to the library, get the car cleaned and clean up the house. exciting stuff I know. i'm live a glamorous life.. Penny - love the earrings.. Diedra - day off sounds NICE. occasionally playing hooky (sp?) is good for the soul.. Tracey - grats on the losses! jealous.. Debra - woot! enjoy your loooong weekend. sounds nice.. Cheri - how cute. love it. can't wait for stuff like that. we are in painting mode here - lots and lots of paintings come home daily.. Everyone else hello hello - I hope everyone has a great on plan day... |
<sigh> Sadly, yes. My eldest and the father of my darling CC. We started having problems with him about the time my youngest was born when he was 13. He will be 31 in Sept. and can't seem to find his path in life. I still hold out hope for him, but with each passing year, I lose a little of that hope.
Teri - HIDE THAT SCALE!!!!! Immediately!.. |
I'm a shawl knitter. They're fun. Hard at times but fun! Right now I"m knitting socks though and a cotton/silk camisole for summer wear.... because I can wear one now!..
I'm so sorry,.
De. I don't have children, but I am extremely close with my sister's kids and I know it will be heartbreaking if one of them goes down the wrong path. It has to be so tough. I sure hope he finds his way... |
Okay, maybe I'm dense or we just call them by a different name here. What is the difference between a shawl, scarf (as in winter) and Pashmina? AND do you wear a pin to keep it closed?..
Shawls are usually triangular or similarly shaped knitted piece to stay on your shoulders for warmth..
Stoles are rectangular knits like a scarf but bigger to work like a shawl. Scarf is a narrow strip knit to keep your neck warm. Pashmina is the name of a woven (not knit) fabric, usually used in current fashion as a stole or scarf (depending on size)... |
I don't get the broohahah.
So what they touched one. It's a fact of life, it's squishy and feels funny. Not like they're totally going to understand all the ramifications of it. I think people so overreact to things these days. No wonder our kids today are so screwed up.. I know this is going to rile up some parents but sorry we can't wrap our kids up on cotton wool and pretend this stuff doesn't exist. Better a controlled exposure with a lesson behind it to remove any F.U.D... |
MT thank you so much for clearing that all up. Yes, I AM coppying and pasting that info. Do you use pins on your shawls? I could always be different and call my shawl pins "Stole Pins."..
Speaking of bad kids, did anyone see that 8 year old in Colorado who was pepper sprayed? He should have had his behind paddled at age 7 and this wouldn't have happened. I'm not talking about child abuse. We don't spank Emma - I think she's only gone over my knee maybe twice in her life. It hurt me more than it did her. But the police had been at this school three times for an 8 year old. This time he'd broken a piece of sharp wood off the wall and was threatening to kill anyone who came near him.
Followed by a good hiney tan. And Mom would be next in line... |
Oh, and I'd rather have a kid handle an implant BEFORE it's implanted. I don't see much harm in them seeing what it looks like before it goes into the body. I just hope there weren't any "after" pictures...
Good morning darlings! Not caught up, but just wanted to wave hello. I'm home from werk today as a mental health day. I have to adjust my thinking to being unemployed in short order. And I have an oral argument I'm supposed to do tonight for which I have not even read the assignment. And I have two Law Review articles I'm supposed to cite-check by Friday, although I suspect that Saturday may be when they get turned in..
Anyway, I needed a breather *now* before I curled up fetal in my bathtub.. Hmmm... speaking of my bathtub.... Hope you're all having amazing OP days!!!.. |
Mt - love that you know all about outerwear. I love random bits of info like that and now it's burned into my brain..
Carolyn - hmm, I think of all the things a plastic surgeon could show for little kids a breast implant would be the most fun to touch - all squishy i'm assuming. I wouldn't have a problem with it for my kid unless he talked about it in depth. you do NOT want to know about what went down in Oakland, CA school district a few months ago - really horrible. I'm glad we moved to berkeley... |
After thoroughly reading that story, Carolyn, I guess I've changed my tune. Nine years old is a tad young, in my opinion, to be thinking about anything whatsoever that changes the body you were given. Body issues are without a doubt already happening with these kids, male and female, and I think maybe facelifts might have been a better subject if a plastic surgeon wanted to talk about something...
Ah i'm going to post. fyi this is in a super bad part of town - oakland has really nice areas and really really REALLY bad areas. but beyond belief..
Oh, boy. I've got like a zillion words I could easily twist into wire. Some of them only we would understand.....
I'm with you MT. It's not like they were touching an actual woman that HAD implants! LOL. It's a plastic bag of silicone...
SECOND GRADE?! OMG! Last year, when DD was in first grade, she overheard someone (a nasty little boy) telling someone to do that. I made sure the principal found out and she then had a conference with the boy's family. FIRST grade. Where are the parents when kids are being exposed to these things? I remember thinking Barbie holding Ken's hand was gross at that age...
Maybe these kids will learn earlier than others that when they look at the perfect barbie doll figure, they can stop the "oh I wish I looked like that" inner speak because they will know what could have made said Barbie look like that. Just my take on it...
I hope the gruesome surgery was a topic. Not just the perky boobies...
Or, about instead a plastic surgeon talking about repairing a cleft lip or something non-beauty/sexx orientated??..
I dunno, I'm about as liberal as they come, but I think they were too young and it was inappropriate for that audience. Plus, I think young girls already have enormous pressure on them from society and media on how they are supposed to look. I think they are more likely to take away the message of "this is what you need to do to be more attractive when you are older" and they get enough of that. Maybe he did it in the context of reconstructive surgery after cancer, the article wasn't very clear..
Hopefully parents took it as a teaching moment and had some honest discussions with their kids about plastic surgery.. I'll have to ask my sister what she thinks. She's pretty liberal, too and might just laugh... |
Right, Sassy. Plastic surgery is not just about vanity..
Although I could use perky boobies, too. LOL @ Penny making that into wire!.. |
Carolyn - I really do get your concerns. But 9 YO today is not what 9 was when we were that age! Kids know more at that age than I did as a teenager. It's scary and more than a little sad, but unfortunately, there's not much we can do to protect our kids from the world. Better to learn about things in a controlled environment than on the streets..
As for the other, all I can say is. !!!!!.. |
I remember reading about this. Horrifying! Definitely makes the breast implant controvery seem tame!!..
Teri- STEP AWAY FROM THE SCALE!!!.
In the past, I could feel wonderful and if I stepped on the scale "just to see" and it was above what I was expecting, my mood instantly crashed. I'm really trying to go with how I'm feeling and how my clothes are fitting. I'm weighing myself officially on Wednesdays. I'll check my weight on Friday and Monday too. I think weighing myself before and after a weekend kinda keeps me in line on Sat and Sun.. Playing hooky yesterday felt oh so good!.. |
I knitted my daughter a shawl/poncho. it turned out cute. I'll post a pic when I get home. I'm working on my first pair of socks. It seems like they are taking forever!..
Hi Everyone! Seems my review has been delayed (what else is new?)..

Good Afternoon Ladies!.
OMGosh! Just saw this... this woman is INSANE. You could not pay me $700 to live in this apartment. And the price is highway robbery to boot!!. Http://shine.yahoo.com/event/green/s...-home-2472666/. And I saw the other community articles, for the breast implants, IF it was done in a tasteful way (re: reconstruction surgery, etc) I could understand that. Nine may be young, but these kids are a much older "9" than I was. Even at 25, I guess I was a "goody too-shoes" back in the day ... that's coming from my 16 yr old brother. The things those teenagers know/say/do... scares the beejeezus out of me!! I want kids - love them - I'd like to hand the teenagers off to someone else when they reach that age.. |
Hey, all! I survived my French test... whether or not I actually did well is another story. x_x.
P.S. I still don't understand where that woman makes her food... of course, that's the first thing I thought of. :P.. |
I think that showing 9 year old silicone breasts is inappropriate. I agree with the others who stated that if a plastic surgeon is going to speak to a group of 9 year olds, there are more appropriate topics than fake boobies..
Girls are under enough pressure already to look "barbie perfect" and boys are being trained at a young age that "barbie perfect" is what is desirable. I don't see any reason to further compound that. Just my 2 cents.. As for the other newstory... I'd be kicking someone's ***** over that if my child was in that class. Second grade! For goodness sake.. On a different note, I am having my peach oatmeal and it is delish. Yum yum. Love it!.. |
I had a panic attack just watching that video!!! No Freakin' WAY!!!!!..
It's kinda funny to me that I reacted the way I did. I'm usually a wide-open liberal. LOL. But it did strike me as so inappropriate. Maybe I am turning into an old fart!.
So, I need some advice here. Some of you know I work out with a place called CrossFit. I love it so much. It's very expensive - I pay $130/month for a 3x/week package - but totally worth it.. Well, here's the sitch. There is this couple, I'll call them Jill and Tom, who were the heart and soul of this CrossFit facility. I actually believed they were the owners. Turns out they were not. The man that does own it, I'll call him Ken, is someone I thought was their employee.. Apparently, it was not the best working relationship with Ken, and Jill and Tom resigned last week. Jill and Tom want to open their own CrossFit facility in May. I totally want to follow them there, but my contract with the facility owned by Ken is not due to expire until January/February 2012!!! I do not want to stay with Ken. He doesn't hold a candle to Jill and Tom. My rapport is with them. The encouragement and support I have received from them over the last few months is phenomenal.. Should I try to get out of that contract by any means possible or should I honor it until it is up?. I'm so sad. I don't even want to go work out tonight, but at the money I'm paying I can't waste it, even if I will be working out with Ken and not Jill and Tom... |
Ohh and FWIW, I should add, that I would be very concerned about body issues stemming from those implants. We are already a vain society and this just adds the pressure to that. Like I said, unless it was in terms of re-construction surgery, etc... but there are other ways to go about it. It's not the actual showing/touching of the implant that bothers me, more so the emotional implications on impressionable girls...

I've lived in homes with bigger closets than that. And I certainly wouldn't pay 3600/month to live in 90 sq feet..
I KNOW!!! I don't mind confined spaces, but NO WAY. I love how she said when she goes home to her parents "sprawling" house, she feels like she's at home (and it's comforting) when she goes in her closet. Has issues. BIZZARE. I love my kitchen, space and sanity too much! For $300 more she could get a place more than THREE times that size in Brooklyn!..
FWIW, it was $700/month, places in Lincoln Center (where she is) generally rent around $3,600/month but that's usually for a really nice 1 bedroom or maybe 2 bedroom - not a studio. Studios rent in that area around $2,000. It's all highway robbery and outrageous... but even $700/month for 90 sq feet - no F'in way!!..
Oops I misread, I wouldn't live there if you paid me either...
I DO mind confined spaces. My kitchen is bigger than that apartment, and my kitchen isn't all that big! I'm really not kidding about the panic attack. My pulse rate is jut now starting to slow down!!!..
And to go along with the "kids these days" sentiment, my little one is, for the first time, playing (OUTside) with the little girl across the street. Just for half an hour. Where I can see her. It's beautiful out and she practically BEGGED me. Time to look out the window and check on her... again...
Penny- I agree with you..
I teach 3rd grade (8yrs old) and my DD is 9. Too young in my opinion. We need to spend more time with our kids (especially young girls) getting them to love their body instead of improve it. Body image and young girls..... |
Penny/Knitty - I couldn't agree with you guys more. But life as a 8 or 9 yo is very different today and very scary IMO. I wish that my kids could have grown up with the simplicity and innocence we had as kids without the crazy fear that we as parents have today. When I was growing up, we were allowed to be kids and do kid things. There was always parental supervision, but they could also let us play in the front yard without worrying that some pervert would drive by and grab one of us. I think our kids really got the short stick on this.
Ian's comment is if he and his friends tried to do that today, they would all end up in jail for trespassing or disturbing the peace... |
Anyone have any opinions on what I should do about CrossFit? If you didn't see my post, it is on the bottom of page 8. I'm really feeling like I'm in a quandary...

For the price of a hotel in New York for one night, and the risk of bedbugs, I'd rent that apartment just to have a place to crash in NYC. All I'd need is a bed, a chair, a light, and a few books. But for my primary residence? No way..
We went to the tenement Museum on my last visit to NYC and the tenement apartments were 4 times bigger and more comfortable!.. |
I would live in that apt for a year (maybe less) simply to experience actually living in that neighborhood. I know I'd get used to it and I can see why she does it. The cooking thing..that would bother me, but I'd get over it. She has a toaster oven and a hot pot. I could actually survive as long as I could add a MW too. I'd rarely be home. I'd be soaking up that neighborhood...

Carolyn.
, I feel so badly about you being stuck. I think it happens a lot. Why don't you call those trainers that you are fond of and see if they have any ideas. I would hate to be stuck there, but that's the danger of those contracts... |
Ohh I'm so sorry, De! I didn't mean to inflict that on you!.
I will say that apartment is probably Medifast friendly... some water and a microwave, and you're set!.. |
Yikes and I thought my house was small. now I feel better..
Carolyn - that is a problem. honestly if it was me I would finish out my contract and then go wherever your old trainers end up if that's a possibility... |
Carolyn - I'm not sure there's an easy answer for you. I hate when gyms make you sign extended contracts. You could try talking to the 2 trainers and see if they have any thoughts on how to proceed..
Lisa - It's all good. It's usually crowds that really send me over the edge, but that apartment.... Ugh!!! It probably wouldn't have bothered me if there had been SOME part of it that wasn't overflowing with stuff. I have trouble watching the hoarder shows for the same reason.. I'm going to go home tonight with a new appreciation of my 2000 sf home!.. |
Thanks for the advice,.
Susan. ,. Teri. And. De. .. I'm already in contact with Jill and Tom. They sent me the sweetest email. I am going to adopt a wait and see attitude for now and see how everything plays out... |
Shawls are pinned, stoles are not..
Stoles are wrapped around one's arms. I pin only if I'm wearing one while active. If I'm just sitting and reading I don't. Also depends on the shawl. Some have very long arms and are meant to be worn cross over your chest and tied behind you (a la Jane Austin-ish poor people).. |
Cool! I'm working on my first sock. Singular. LOL Not sure if I'm going to continue with the pair or not...
Carolyn, I was also going to suggest speaking with Jill and Tom to see what their suggestion is. Contracts suck out loud. If Ken knows you're unhappy and that you've grown close with Jill and Tom, will he work with you? Too bad they didn't part on better terms or he may just have transferred you..
The "play date" went swimmingly. I looked out and my girl was holding that girl's hand as the girl's knees knocked together on her roller skates! Then I noticed my little girl was in her sock feet. On the sidewalk. I'm not one to yell across the street, so I just opened the door and shot "the look" clear across the street. Message delivered. The next time I looked out, my girl was in the roller skates and helmet and was oddly reminiscent of Bambi on the frozen pond.... My hubby still hasn't gotten home from work so I'm glad I didn't make that nail appointment. I have a feeling he's not going to the gym tonight, either. That means no Mommy time. But I can't complain; I've had time to write some pretty funny stuff in wire. Maybe after dinner I'll go get some more wire.. I did talk to him about a date day, though. Thinking about Good Friday. The little girl will be at the Y that week which gives us until 5:30 pm. Movie, lunch, nooner..... |
