At 6'4" tall (and 339 pounds) I used to shop at Big & Tall stores (I had to), and when I had the same NSV you just had about my old clothes, the same thought of "large scale" tailoring was my first idea..
I realized a couple of things that may now apply to you as they recently did for me:. 1. "Normal stores" like Men's Warehouse (for example) have quality suits and business clothes for a lot less $$ than I used to spend at B&T stores.. 2. There is only so much tailoring that can be done to a suit jacket and pair of pants. At some point there's nothing that can be done, or it gets so involved and expensive that buying a new suit is actually cheaper. 3. Buying clothes in sizes you once thought you'd never see again is a VERY different experience than buying clothes in sizes that (as a young man) you never thought you'd see at all. It's not so bad.. Normal sized people get 2-for-1 sales, discounts, and a much more varied selection that I never saw at any B&T stores up here in the Northeast. Take a look around... you might be surprised.. Congrats. Wes. PS - Be sure to confirm the hotel has a microwave available! I "assumed" there would be one once and wound up eating cold lasagna and ravioli each night. Not exactly something I'd recommend!.. |

That's great to hear! Good job! If it makes you feel any better, my pants nearly fell down while I was in lab.. thankfully my lab coat was long enough to hide the atrocious sag.....

Congrats! That's an awesome NSV!.
My wife suggested I keep one suit from my "bigger days" to remind me everytime I open my closet where I was and where I don't want to ever go again. I just added two more suits to my collection this past week (42 jacket and 34 pants) - I'm lovin' life!. Congrats again and enjoy that new wardrobe as it comes!.. |
|
Don't spend a lot of money for what I call "transition clothing". Very nice indeed!..
|
|
Enjoy the journey. This type of NSV was always one of my favorites. I've been wearing the same size cloths for a year now and I know I don't ever want to go up in size again. Keep it going...

Don't spend tooooo much on tailoring because "YOU'RE GOIN' DOWN"!..

Thanks guys!.
I've been walking around all day still jazzed with the fact that I finally cracked the 300 line.. I'm pretty sure I can't get a microwave Wes, so I'm just taking bars and hot water type mix meals.. I figure that I can go buy salad, yogurt and fruit and aded with those eat 75% of my meals on plan. There are two food courts in the property that I can visit and order some lo-cal Panda Express and similar foods for a few of the meals. I also looked up the 24hr Fitness locations to try and get at least three workouts in, on top of my daily walking on the job.. As for the tailoring...I hear you all loud and clear...I think Goodwill is in for another donation soon and I'll see if I can't find a couple discount suits to use until I drop a bit more poundage.. You guys all play a part in this...the stories, encouragement and advice have really kept me at it day after day. Thank you!.. |

Just saw my doc this morning and his nurse told me that I have the blood pressure of a teenager. (120 over 80) His whole staff was amazed at how much I'd lost since May of last year..
The doc is leaving this practice next month, but he told me that he was really happy to have been around to see how far I'd come in such a relatively short time. I even skipped getting a cortisone shot in my knees...we agreed that if they felt this good it was fine to not get it right now.. So, clothing and medical NSV's in one week.. For all you new guys out there, remember that as has been said here often..."nothing tastes as good as being thin feels".. |
|
Hey Bigjt...way to go! Congrats and keep those pounds and inches coming off...
|
|
Just think JT - I started at where you are now - I remember all of the NSVs I had getting down to 225 - when I looked at the guys that were starting at 225 - I couldn't believe I would get the benefits they were reporting (I would have already had all I would get). Turns out it just gets better and better and better. No matter how great you feel right now - it will get better!.
Congratulations - and especially congratulations for establishing the lifestyle that will benefit you for the rest of your life!.. |
|
Congratulations, that is great! 69 lbs makes a huge difference!.
LOL at "clownishly big." hehe. I agree that you should keep one of your bigger suits as a reminder, good call there... |

Someone tried to compliment how my jeans looked looser already, but in reality said "wow it looks like you pooped your pants!" Thanks?..
