My 1st question is: What is more important for Nutrisystem diet or exercise? Hoping for any comment. Another question... I found this link on Yahoo and wanted to share it with you guys.. |
I'm stumped. I'm not so sure what is the answer to that question. I'll do some research in Google and get back to you if I got an anything. You should email the people at Nutrisystem as they probably could assist you..
Thanks for the link..
>What do you think?. What do I think? I think I didn't know some of that stuff.. ... |
Fascinating article. I never knew the human nipple has that many nerve endings...
I think you're having too much fun there Michael.
Stop thinking about the girl in pink... focus!. What do I think about the article? very interesting and number 4 particularly has me a bit concerned as it relates to NS... |
Why are you concerned about #4 in that article as it pertains to NS? There aren't many simple carbs in the Nutrisystem diet, so it's really a moot point for us. You should be more concerned about #3 as it talks about the Glycemic index, which is a very good thing and it's what Nutrisystem bases their diet on. Nutrisystem has done their homework and it is the reason people are successful who follow this diet the correct way..
But I'll say this: Nutrisystem alone is not enough if you are doing any kind of intensive weight training and cardio workouts. You will need to supplement with more protein and probably more carbs too. I figure that I'm consuming at least 2500 calories/day now, maybe more, and can still easily maintain my weight... |
I'm probably over thinking that one... I don't know. For example, If you choose more carb items on the menu which I tend to do, would that be the same as choosing items with lower carbs on the menu? OK lets say I eat an apple scone, fettuchini, and the pizza vs. items on the menu that have a higher protein and less carb... Is it equal? As I glance over at my food choices with Nutrisystem I think every single one is carb rich. My dinner selections especially have no meat dishes. Lunches are mostly pastas ect...
Yes Ben, I believe that you are over thinking this one. But one thing I will mention is that on the days that I do my weight training, I always choose the meals that have higher grams of protein. But then again, I would always add more protein such as lean turkey, chicken, or tuna. The biggest thing for me with Nutrisystem was finding items that I could stomach on a consistant basis that wouldn't make me want to give up on this program. And there were plenty of things that I didn't like. But it only took me a couple of months to nail down what I could live with...
Ok... now that I stand corrected i'll eat a pizza every day this week without worring too much about it...
Not all carbs are evil..
Much of the protein hype, especially in regards to weight lifting, has been over hyped by the supplement companies.. Yes protein is good....but carbs are an essential part of your diet and low glycemic carbs should never be confused with a Snickers bar type of carb... |
Just a point here - my sister has had a very tough time losing weight and has only (in the past) had success with very low carb diets (e.g. Atkins, liquid protein and Optifast). She's lost 43 pounds on Nutrisystem since April - and is now a believer in LGI carbs. You just gotta believe that fruits and vegetables are essential and guess what THEY'RE CARBS!..
Great link...I agree that it agrees with the Nutrisystem method..
I think the part that is overlooked by most of articles on diet is that it needs to be a life time change. Most people read the article, change for a little while (and do lose weight), and then go right back to what caused the weight gain to start with (assuming the weight gain was not health issue related).. They than wonder way they gain the weight back and start over again.. Over the last 20 years, I have lost over 100 lbs twice. Both by changing my diet (first time not eating and the second with low carbs). Both diets achieved the goal that I was going for...Losing weight.. However, I really believe that Nutrisystem has pointed out not how to lose weight, but how to eat correctly.. My focus now is becoming healthly and the best way to do that is to follow the Nutrisystem plan until I am at a point where I can maintain my body where it should be.. Clark.. |
This article reaffirms exactly what I always thought. That calories going in vs going out does not determine success on a diet and that protein is king. Thanks for posting...
Well said Clark!.
If the things we are doing now are not a life style change, then we'll be back here in a very short time starting this journey over. I keep answering people who ask me where the rest of me is, "Gone forever!" and I intend to make sure that is the truth!.. |
Beyond this, that the timing of meals and the combination of nutrients is very important...
These were all good points. The explanation about why we should eat small portions frequently vs large portions infrequently makes sense...
I found it very interesting that just about everything in the article aligned with the Nutrisystem program. They just make it really easy to follow those rules...
I agree with lfeder in that eating small portions throughout the day at frequent basis, as the article states, is a fantastic way to "keep the engine going" so to speak. I could never go back to eating 2-3 times a day anymore even when I hit the maintenance stage..
However, after reading the section regarding sugar and increasing insulin levels.. I have noticed many of the dessert items are stocked with sugar (not just sugar alcohols.. which I believe isn't worth worrying about). I have a sweet tooth and plenty of my dessert items are the brownies, nuget bars, etc. I'm wondering if I need to switch a few of them to the less sugary types like soy chips and pretzels... |
I eat my "sugary" snack in the afternoon (usually a cookie or biscotti with my afternoon coffee) and a "salty" snack at night (chips and pretzles). By the way, I love the pretzles. They're better than most store-bought ones..
Don't deprive yourself of the treat, just don't overindulge... |
